The authors' creativity shows its wideness on the new machines and working methodology of them. On the whole, we can broadly classify the technology under few categories. All the sci-fi machines work under chemical technology, electrical and electronics technology, advanced physics and bio technology.
Take whatever stories you want. The concept behind the sci-fi story will surely comes behind these technologies since they are the basic technology which is advancing in the technology era. In other words, it is considered as a new technology or advancement in technology only if the fields which were stated above get above improvement.
